Privacy at Sproute

The short version

Sproute stores all your financial data in a local SQLite database on your computer. We don't operate servers that receive your data. We don't have accounts or user profiles. We can't see your transactions even if we wanted to.

What data is stored

Sproute stores the following data locally on your machine:

  • Credit card information you add (card name, last four digits, earn rates)
  • Transaction data you import (merchant, amount, date, category)
  • Your spending summaries and category breakdowns
  • App preferences and settings

This data lives in a SQLite database file in your system's application data directory. It's a standard file on your computer — you can find it, back it up, or delete it anytime.

What Sproute never does

  • Send your financial data to any server
  • Require you to create an account or provide personal information
  • Track your usage with analytics or telemetry
  • Share or sell data to third parties
  • Connect to your bank accounts directly
  • Store your bank login credentials

How imports work

When you import transactions via CSV, PDF, screenshot, or pasted text, all processing happens entirely on your machine:

  • CSV files are parsed locally by the Sproute sidecar process
  • PDF statements are parsed locally — no cloud PDF service
  • Screenshot OCR uses PaddleOCR running locally via ONNX Runtime — no images are sent anywhere
  • Pasted text is parsed in-process on your machine

Subscription & payments

Sproute subscriptions are processed through Polar, our merchant of record. Polar handles all payment processing and billing. Sproute does not see or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details. Polar's privacy policy governs payment data handling.

Update checks

Sproute may check for application updates by contacting our update server. This request contains only the current app version and your operating system — no financial data, usage data, or personally identifiable information is included.
